Sri Lanka secured a dominant victory over Bangladesh, propelling them past Pakistan in the World Test Championship standings. This win greatly strengthens their chances of reaching the finals.

The 192-run win in Chattogram sealed a 2-0 series sweep for Sri Lanka. This triumph pushes them to fourth place in the World Test Championship, with only India, Australia, and New Zealand ranking higher. Their points percentage now stands at a solid 50%.

Sri Lanka has a promising road ahead, with two home series remaining in the cycle. They’ll face New Zealand later this year, followed by two Tests against Australia in early 2025. Before that, they’ll take on England in a three-match away series in August, brimming with confidence after their Bangladesh success.

Kamindu Mendis emerged as the series’ top scorer, demonstrating Sri Lanka’s batting prowess. His 367 runs at an impressive average of 122.33 were crucial to their victory.

Mendis’ unbeaten 92 was key in Sri Lanka’s massive first-innings total of 531. Their bowlers backed up the strong batting performance, with Asitha Fernando leading the charge with four wickets, dismantling Bangladesh for a mere 178 runs.

Lahiru Kumara sealed the deal in the second innings with his own four-wicket haul.

Bangladesh, unfortunately, slips to equal seventh in the standings. Their uphill battle continues later this year as they face Pakistan in a two-Test away series.
