Sri Lankan Captain Dhananjaya de Silva is celebrating a major career achievement after his outstanding performance against Bangladesh secured him a significant boost in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.

His twin centuries in Sylhet were instrumental in Sri Lanka’s decisive victory, propelling him to a new personal best ranking.

De Silva’s impressive scores of 102 and 108 saw him leapfrog 15 places to secure the 14th spot overall. He now boasts a remarkable 695 rating points, inching closer to the coveted top 10 Test batters worldwide.

Teammate Kamindu Mendis also shone in the first Test against Bangladesh. His twin tons mark a triumphant re-entry into the Test batter rankings, where he currently sits in equal 64th place. This eye-catching display was only his second Test appearance.

While Bangladesh faced defeat, veteran left-hander Mominul Haque delivered a resilient performance. His unbeaten 87* in the second innings earned him an eight-place jump to 50th on the Test batter list.

Sri Lankan bowlers also made their mark on the latest rankings. Kasun Rajitha’s five-wicket haul in the second innings propelled him six places to 38th overall. Vishwa Fernando (43rd) and Lahiru Kumara (equal 46th) also climbed the rankings following their strong contributions.

India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin continue their dominance of the Test all-rounder rankings. Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan moved up one spot (14th), while de Silva made a significant five-place jump to land in equal 25th.
