Nahida Akter made history today, becoming the Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker for the Bangladesh women’s ODI team. The slow left-arm spinner surpassed Salma Khatun’s long-standing record of 52 wickets in a match against Australia.
Akter’s impressive 2/27 performance, claiming the wickets of Tahlia McGrath and Ashleigh Gardner, rattled the Australian middle order and solidified her position at the top. Salma Khatun previously held the record with 52 wickets at an average of 22.69.
Nahida Akter’s rise to prominence began in 2015 when she debuted at just 15 years old. She currently holds the title of highest wicket-taker in T20Is as well, with 86 wickets at an impressive 16.15 average.
This young star’s ODI statistics are equally notable, with an average of 21.84 and an economy rate of 3.76. Her talent has been instrumental in securing victories for Bangladesh against powerhouses like India, Pakistan, and South Africa.
Although Akter couldn’t prevent Australia’s win in today’s match, her achievement is a major milestone for Bangladeshi cricket. The three-game series is part of the ICC Women’s Championship.
