Chris Lynn has been handed a one-month ban after returning a positive doping test during the Vitality Blast Finals Day on 18 July 2026, the ECB's Cricket Regulator has confirmed in a reasoned decision published on 5 November.
What the test found
Lynn underwent an in-competition doping control at Edgbaston, and his sample returned an adverse finding for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine. Cocaine is listed as a stimulant on the WADA Prohibited List and is banned in competition.
Lynn's account and the expert evidence
The Australian batter told the regulator he had used cocaine on 15 and 16 July, and expert evidence supported his position that the ingestion happened out of competition and was unrelated to his sporting performance. The regulator's own expert agreed with that view.
How the ban was reduced to one month
From three months to one month
The Cricket Regulator initially sought a three-month period of ineligibility, but Lynn admitted the violations on 27 September and completed a substance of abuse treatment programme, which reduced the ban to one month under the anti-doping rules.
Ban already served
The suspension ran from his provisional suspension on 31 July 2026 and was completed on 30 August, which means the ban has already been fully served.
What happens to Lynn's results?
His results between 18 July and 31 July have been disqualified, while his county side Northamptonshire Steelbacks face no sanction.
Final decision
The decision, dated 2 November 2026, is final subject to appeal.
