A concussion has ruled New Zealand batter Devon Conway out of the remainder of the ODI series against India.
How the injury happened
Conway and fast bowler Matt Henry collided during fielding practice on the eve of the series opener in Auckland, and both missed Wednesday's first ODI, which India won to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
Henry cleared, Kelly called in
While Conway will play no further part in the series, there is better news for New Zealand on Henry. The fast bowler has been cleared of concussion and will be available for selection for the second ODI in Wellington on Saturday.
Nick Kelly has been called into the squad as Conway's replacement. Kelly was originally selected for only the fourth and fifth ODIs, but he will now join the squad in Wellington. He has been withdrawn from the New Zealand A squad, which begins the third match of its unofficial Test series against India A in Lincoln on Saturday, with Auckland batter Dale Phillips taking his place.
What it means for the series
Conway's absence is a blow for the hosts, who are already chasing the series after the Auckland defeat. The second ODI in Wellington is their chance to level things up — and with Henry cleared, New Zealand at least have their strike bowler back for it.
