The Pakistan Women’s Squad is gearing up for a crucial home series against the West Indies as they prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. A 20-player preliminary squad will convene in Karachi on April 2nd for intensive training.
This series is significant, featuring three ODI matches counting towards the ICC Women’s Championship. These matches are essential for Pakistan’s chances of direct qualification for next year’s Women’s Cricket World Cup. Following the ODIs, five T20Is will serve as crucial preparation for the T20 World Cup.
The squad features exciting returns, including Ayesha Zafar, Gul Feroza, Rameen Shamim, Sidra Nawaz, and Tuba Hassan.
While Omaima Sohail and Shawaal Zulfiqar (recovering from injury) miss out, Asmavia Iqbal, the chief selector, explains the focus on broadening the player pool. “Based on performance in recent domestic and international events, the selection committee has picked these 20 probable players,” Iqbal said. She continued, “The West Indies series and the ICC Women’s Championship matches are of paramount importance to securing direct qualification for the ICC Women’s 50-over World Cup.”
The final 15-player ODI squad will be confirmed during the Karachi camp. Five players will then compete in the domestic Women’s One-Day Tournament.
